Inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks’ In The Blood tells the story of Hester, a homeless black woman and her five children who live under a bridge near the freeway. As Hester struggles against poverty, those in her world who are supposed to help her only exploit and hold her back. Can Hester and her children survive or will forces combine to destroy them?
